ENGLISH

As in the first three years of college, in the first semester of the master program we have continued the study of the English language and it appears that we will continue to do so the next semester as well. The biggest change I suppose was the new teacher, who has a tendency to put great emphasis on the differences between British and American English. However, it's very hard for me not to notice that she does not seem to speak either of these dialects of the English language, her accent being a very unusual one.

To describe it I think it's sufficient to say that the phonetic features and orthographic characteristics of the Romanian version of the Latin alphabet are sufficient to reproduce its sounds in writing, as I am doing right now to the best of my abilities. I think I can safely say that two or three hours a week of listening to this has had a certain effect on my English speaking skills. Also, as you can probably imagine, it's absolutely needless to say that sometimes it can be very hard or even impossible to understand what is being said in front of the class.

In the course of the first semester, mostly out of boredom, I have taken it upon myself to make notes of some of the more special words in the teacher's speeches. Now, at the end of the semester, I have decided to capitalize on my knowledge end compile a small dictionary in order to facilitate communication in the English course and maybe make classes a little less boring, although I doubt that's possible.

To conclude this article, I believe I may have found the origin of the English accent described in these rows. In my opinion it is very similar to the accent of the Hasidic Jews of Central and Eastern Europe, also known as the Haredim. A sample of this accent can be heard in the beginning of the movie Snatch, one of the best movies of the last decade if you ask me.
